What We Do
Litter picking
We host group litter picks of parks and green spaces. Equipment is loaned to J&I schools, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, and Brownies from around the Holme Valley, plus further afield as we expand our presence.
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award tasks
Working in cooperation with Holmfirth High School, provide students with 12 hours of community tasks needed to complete this section of the DoE Bronze Award.
Book Swap Library
We request books for our Book Swap Library in School Street which has become a firm favourite for children and adults to use.
Traffic and roadside sign cleaning
Concerted effort is made in keeping the Holme Valley looking clean and welcome residents to report areas that are in need of our help.
Local Churches / Schools
Requests are received for help to cut back overgrowth, strim grass, weed, paint railings, prepare woodland areas for school children use.
Dog Poo Bag Dispensers filled
4 dispensers are filled in Victoria Park, Hollowgate, Crown Bottom car park and Holmbridge, by the Chair, Holmepride - CiA.
Parks and greenspaces managed and maintained via contract with Kirklees Council
A contract exists where Holmepride - Community in Action look after 3 gardens: 2 gardens in Victoria Park and the other in School Street, Holmfirth. Plants are sourced through Kirklees Polytunnels in Huddersfield or via donations from the local community (bulbs/seeds/plants)
Requests received from Festival organisers to litter pick and metal detect as needed
Festivals such as Food and Drink, Honley Show, Duck Race and Festival of Folk have often asked for our help to keep our town clean. We were pleased to help our towns latest Pride weekend in June which will become a regular event in future years.
Graffiti / Cable Ties / Stickers / old event notices
Graffiti around the Holme Valley is attended to promptly and respond to reports of its occurrence from local residents, plus providing Graffiti Spray Paint Remover solution to any local resident who is community minded and happy to remove graffiti themselves.
Cable ties and stickers left unchecked can bring a look of untidiness, so are removed whenever come across, same with outdated event flyers.
Weeding of streets in centre of Holmfirth not now undertaken by Kirklees Council
With Holmfirth being a tourist town, it's essential to keep this under control, so events to tackle weed removal is closely monitored.
